Victims of Lexington house explosion identified as family asks for help
LEXINGTON, Mo. (KCTV) - Relatives of a Lexington family ask for help following a deadly house explosion.
Five-year-old Alistair Cunningham died in the explosion on April 9. His father, Jacob, and 10-year-old sister, Cami, were airlifted to Kansas City hospitals to be treated for severe burns. The information about the family comes from a GoFundMe account established at the request of Jacob’s mother to help him and his his daughter.
The family had just returned home for the evening when the explosion happened, according to the extended family’s message.
GoFundMe verified the authenticity of the account. A spokesperson for the City of Lexington also confirmed she is aware of the account and that a family member created it.

Jacob’s aunt also mentioned in the link that his wife, Rachel Lamb-Cunningham passed away in December 2023 due to health complications.
An investigation is underway into the cause of the explosion, but people who call the community home said they are angry about what happened.
The rubble of the home remained scattered across part of a block remained a visual reminder of what happened Wednesday night.
“It’s just really kinda hitting me hard,” Amanda Jones, Cunningham family friend, said.
Jones runs the Hardin Mini Mart and started collecting donations for the Cunningham’s.
“We would like to be able to give them some cash and let them spend it however they need, for whatever they need,” Jones said.
A spokesperson for Liberty Gas said crews were notified about a gas leak and a damaged gas line during a fiber line installation.
Liberty Gas shut off service to the entire city following the explosion. It had not been restored as of Thursday evening.
