KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Police release video showing the dangerous problem of illegal sideshows that officers say are plaguing certain areas of the city.

The video is shot from KCPD’s helicopter.

The video shows an intersection taken over by dozens of parked cars. There are also dozens of people out of vehicles walking around the intersection as a car does a burnout.

Police said the helicopter helped other officers move in an make arrests.

Police said officers broke up several sideshows across the city over the weekend.

Sergeant Grant Ruark with the Kanas City Police Department said they started to see this increase within the last four to six weeks.

“As the weather gets warmer, the groups are getting larger and more and more prevalent around the city,” Ruark said.

KCPD said they’re working with departments across the metro to help with enforcement. The department said it is also increasing tow fees and working closer with the city prosecutor to increase penalties for those involved in the illegal sideshows.

The department said Tuesday that officers wrote 27 traffic tickets, arrested five people on outstanding warrants, towed three vehicles, and arrested one person on suspicion of child endangerment.
