KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Monarchs pennants sold Thursday morning will help raise funds for the Rotary Youth Club.

Chiefs, Monarchs, and music fans were up early Thursday morning buying Monarchs pennants and then getting them signed by KC legends and celebrities.

Former Kansas City Chiefs Running Back Christian Okoye and “Modern Family” actor/Chiefs super fan Eric Stonestreet were co-chairs of for the Greater Kansas City Day event inside Union Station. Other former players joined them alongside Tech N9ne.

Pro Football Hall of Fame Quarterback Warren Moon expressed, “It’s something that means a lot to me, it means a lot to the community.”

This year is the Rotary Youth Camp’s 100th anniversary. It is located in Lee’s Summit and provides our youth with physical, mental, or emotional challenges and a place to grow.

It’s also the 100th anniversary of the Monarch’s win in the first-ever Negro League World Series. The first pitch of the Monarch’s home opener is set for 6:35 p.m. Thursday.

$2 of every pennant sold Thursday will go directly to them with the leaders at the club hoping for more than $20,000 in donations.

“I think kids are our future and any advantage you can give kids – we should strive to do that,” said Jackson County Executive Frank White.

Okeye echoed, “Anything to help kids is important, especially for those at-risk kids that cannot help themselves as easily.”

Some fans are getting a chance of a lifetime.

“I’ve been trying to get Christian’s autograph for years. He’s in St. Joe all the time for Chiefs training camp but he’s elusive. I never get him. So, this is my day,” said fan Kelli McGlothlin.
