Man accused of pulling gun on woman in Lawrence arrested in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The man accused of pulling a gun on a woman in Lawrence was found and arrested in Kansas City months after the crime is alleged to have happened.
Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Tuesday, April 29, indicate that Devonshay T. Hilleland, 26, who was wanted in connection with an alleged assault in Lawrence, Kansas, was found and arrested in Kansas City.
A criminal complaint filed by the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office revealed that on Dec. 30, Hilleland is accused of pulling a gun on a woman he knew. He was charged with aggravated assault in Kansas in January.
However, court records indicated that a warrant for Hilleland’s arrest was not issued until Feb. 11. He was found in Kansas City on Tuesday and arrested. An extradition waiver was signed for his return to Lawrence to face a judge there.
Hilleland was initially booked into the Jackson County, Missouri, Detention Center but has since been extradited back to the Douglas County Detention Center and released on a $5,000 bond.
If convicted of the assault, court records noted that Hilleland could spend nearly 3 years behind bars and be forced to pay a $100,000 fine. A first appearance in Kansas has been scheduled for 3 p.m. on May 21 in front of Judge Amy Hanley.
