BUTLER, Mo. (KCTV) - Arrest warrants have been issued for two men accused of stealing more than $9,000 as part of a nearly $20,000 theft scheme from a farm and home supply store.

Bates County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday, April 16, indicate that Mason A. Dudley, 27, of Amoret, and Robert C. Gabriel, 46, of Butler, have been charged in connection with a scheme that resulted in a nearly $20,000 loss for a local farm and home supply store.

A probable cause statement filed by the Butler Police Department revealed that on Jan. 10, law enforcement officials received a call with reports of a string of thefts from the Family Center at 903 W. Fort Scott St.

A manager reported that a group of individuals had come into the store between Aug. 31 and Sept. 30, 2024. During each trip, the suspects would have the cashier enter their card number manually, which would override the system and allow payments to go through, despite a lack of funds.

Through the investigation, law enforcement officials said they found a total of $19,190 had been stolen from the store. Of which, Dudley and Gabriel had been responsible for more than $9,000 each.

As a result, Dudley and Gabriel were charged with stealing on April 16. Warrants, with the condition of a $10,000 bond, were also issued for their arrests.

As of Friday, April 18, Dudley does not appear to be behind bars. Gabriel, who pleaded not guilty on Thursday, remains behind bars in Bates County.

A hearing has not yet been set for Dudley. No further information has been released, including the identities of Dudley’s cohorts.
