KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - One of the most remarkable turnarounds in Major League Baseball history wasn’t good enough to land Kansas City Royals manager Matt Quatraro the 2024 AL Manager of the Year Award.

Quatraro helped the Royals improve from a franchise-worst 56-106 record in 2023 to a 30-win improvement and AL Wild Card berth a year later. Still, Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt won the award following a division-winning season for the Guardians in Vogt’s first season as manager.

It was the first playoff appearance for the Royals in nine seasons and the sixth-best single-season win gain in MLB history. Kansas City’s success came during Quatraro’s second season in charge of the Royals on-field success.

Quatraro finished in second place over fellow AL Central manager A.J. Hinch, who led the Detroit Tigers to a Wild Card appearance. The Royals manager was given two first-place votes.

Vogt, who won, was just two years removed from his playing career.
