Royals add trio of pitchers to 15-day injured list ahead of Opening Day
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A trio of Kansas City Royals pitchers are heading to the injured list ahead of Opening Day.
Monday night, the Royals announced that right-handed pitchers Alec Marsh, Kyle Wright and James McArthur each were added to the 15-day injured list.
The Royals said Marsh was dealing with right shoulder impingement, Wright was dealing with right shoulder surgery and McArthur was rehabbing a right elbow olecranon surgery.
Marsh, a 25-year-old with two years of big-league experience, pitched 129 innings for the Royals last season with a 4.53 ERA and a 9-9 record. He was drafted by the Royals in the second round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Arizona State and spent a portion of 2024 as Kansas City’s fifth starter in the rotation.
Wright was traded to the Royals in November 2023 by the Atlanta Braves. He missed the entire 2024 season as he dealt with a shoulder injury that required surgery. He won 21 games for the Braves in 2022 during the only season of his career in which he pitched more than 38 innings.

McArthur pitched out of the bullpen for the majority of last season. He had a 5-7 record and a 4.92 ERA for the Royals in 2024 and had 18 saves while spending a portion of the season as Kansas City’s closer.
The Royals open the 2025 season at Kauffman Stadium on Thursday, March 27, against the Cleveland Guardians. First pitch is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. CT.
