Latin dining, nightlife concept opens at Kansas City Live! Block
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Besos y Abrazos, a new Latin dining and nightlife concept, opened at 1323 Walnut Street in the Kansas City Live! Block in the Kansas City Power and Light District.
Besos y Abrazos, Spanish for kisses and hugs, brings vibrant Latin flavors and crafted cocktails to a high-energy atmosphere.
“Our team has worked tirelessly to bring a one-of-a-kind concept and immersive experience like Besos y Abrazos to Kansas City,” said the president of the Kansas City Power & Light District John Moncke. “From the moment you step inside, you’re transported to a vibrant atmosphere, where energy is high, flavors are bold and every moment is a celebration.”

Kansas City chef Joe Shirley created the menu. Shirley has collaborated with multiple James Beard-nominated chefs and is known for founding Überdine, an award-winning pop-up supper club.
The menu for Besos y Abrazos presents a modern take on Latin cuisine. Dishes are made to share, encouraging diners to explore different dishes.
Items include:
- Brazilian Cheese Bread with charred tomatillo crema and cool ranch
- Yellowfin Tuna Tostadas with avocado and leche de tigre
- Charred Octopus with crispy potato and aji Camarillo butter
- Tempura Lobster Tacos with pineapple habanero
- House-made empanadas
- Handcrafted signature cocktails

The restaurant and nightlife concept will be open Tuesday through Sunday. Between Thursday and Sunday evenings, the venue turns into a high-energy nightlife destination. Happy hour drink specials will run Tuesday to Friday from 4-7 p.m. Thursday nights are Las Chicas nights from 9-11 p.m. Besame Sundays include a brunch experience from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Anthony Villarreal, SiriusXM on-air DJ for Pitbull’s Globalization, will be in charge of the music.
Mark Knauer and Knauer Incorporated designed the space. Knauer has been in the hospitality design industry for over 30 years. The 3,300-square-foot interior has upholstered booths, natural wood tones and casual seating groups. The roll-up door connects the main dining area to the patio opening the space to the Kansas City Live! Block.
