ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KCTV) - St. Joseph is eager to receive the Chiefs at Missouri Western State University for training camp for the 14th year in a row, as the team begins their quest for the elusive three-peat championship.

Restaurants like Il Lazzarone see a bump in sales at the pizzeria located on Frederick Avenue. General Manager Tyler Soethout called the training camp huge for the community.

“We do get a lot of customers coming in to enjoy our pizza after they visit the Chiefs out of training camp,” Soethout said. “We even are lucky enough to get a few of the players that come in here too.”

For the big-name players they normally shut down the shop to allow them to have extra privacy.

River Bluff Brewery, just down the street said they also have staff come in, but it’s normally coaches because the players are getting ready for the season.

Chris Lanman is the co-founder and director of Hops at the Brewery, which also has a second location in Kansas City’s River Market.

They have a special brew that coincides with the official kickoff of training camp.

“We serve it at Red Rally Day, and it goes to the Super Bowl, because we’ll be in the Super Bowl,” Lanman said. “It’s always one of the best seller here at our St. Joe spot and Kansas City.”

The Pony Express Museum said last year they saw 2,000 additional guests, and they didn’t just come from Missouri. They were from all across the country.
