Johnson County votes on school bond, sales tax and whether a park stays or goes
JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. (KCTV) - To be counted, three separate mail-in ballots must be in a Johnson County drop-box no later than noon, April 1.
Gardner-Edgerton will vote on a $100 million dollar school bond. If passed, the bond would fund a new elementary school, convert Sunflower Elementary into a special needs early childhood center, replace and improve all playgrounds, provide safety and security upgrades, expand common spaces at Gardner Edgerton High School and its adult programming, and build a new district service center.
In Lenexa, voters will decide whether to extend an existing 3/8 cent sales tax that funds trails, parks, road maintenance, city centers, and more. If approved, the sales tax would be collected for an additional 20 years, renewing on October 1, 2028.

In Westwood, Joe D. Dennis Park is at the center of a controversial vote. The small parcel of land at 50th and Rainbow Blvd.. will become a new mixed-use work space if the vote passes. It will remain as is, if not.

All voters must already have received their ballot via their USPS mailbox at home. If returning in person: the ballot must be returned by 12:00-noon on election day to any drop box within the county or to the county election office. If returning by mail: the ballot must be returned by 12:00-noon on election day to the county election office.
