Former Anchor Anne Peterson reminisces on time at KCTV5 as station celebrates 70 years
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - KCTV5 is proudly celebrating 70 years of broadcast excellence. Seven decades of delivering news, entertainment, and community service to the heart of the Midwest. Founded as an FM radio station, KCMO became a television station in 1953, then changed the call letters to KCTV in 1983.
Through the decades, KCTV5 has grown into a staple of local television, adapting to technological advancements and changing viewer preferences. An evolution that iconic anchor team Wendall Anschutz and Anne Peterson were witness to. They were a cornerstone of our history --- beginning their time together in 1979 ... eventually becoming the longest-running anchor team in the country at the time.
Today, Anne Peterson still says, “Channel Five was really the heart of my career. And when I think about my years in television news here in Kansas City, what really comes to mind are all of the people that I worked with here at the station, and not just the people that were on air, but also behind the scenes, every single department that I worked with, and everyone had so much heart.
Wendall retired in 2001, then passed away in 2010.
As KCTV5 looks ahead to the next chapter, we remain committed to innovation and excellence. Our goal is to continue delivering the quality programming, community service and local-live news coverage that you’ve come to expect.
