KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - KCTV5 is proudly celebrating 70 years of broadcast excellence. Seven decades of delivering news, entertainment, and community service to the heart of the Midwest.

Channel 5 came onto the airwaves as a brand new television station -- the likes of which had never been seen. From local iconic programs, like Harold Ensley’s “A Sportsman’s Friend” to massive community fundraisers --- like the Project Warmth campaign and years of round-the-clock telethons with Jerry Lewis and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

To help us reflect, we invited a few former on-air personalities to help us take a look back. Fred Broski came to KCTV in 1980 and offered trusted weather forecasts until his retirement in 1998.

Broski fondly looks back on his days in the studio, especially when he sat on the news desk with Anne Peterson and Wendall Anschutz. “So I remember working with a couple of the great anchors, and they did a great job.... and plus, we had such a family operation, and I’m sure it’s the same way, they’re taking good care of the mothership right now.”

Broski quite literally made it a family affair ... his daughter, Julie Broski later joined the weather team as well.

Now, KCTV5 looks ahead to the next chapter -- our goal is to continue delivering quality programming, community service and the local live news coverage that you’ve come to expect.
