‘We all got rings’: Lee’s Summit couple celebrates Super Bowl wedding anniversary
Nikki and Rob Walkowiak tied the knot on Feb 2, 2020 because it was a palindrome date.
LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) - Four years ago, Kansas City was celebrating the Chiefs first Super Bowl victory in 50 years. And for one local couple, Super Bowl LIV was special in more ways than one.
Nikki and Rob Walkowiak tied the knot.
“It was perfect,” said Nikki. “I wouldn’t have asked for that day to go any differently than it did.”
The Lee’s Summit couple decided on Feb 2, 2020, a year prior because it’s a palindrome. The date is the same backward and forward. Instead of moving their wedding from Super Bowl LIV, Nikki and Rob doubled down.
“We got married at 4, pregame was at 4:30, kickoff was at [5:30],” Nikki recalled.

The lifelong Chiefs fans told their guests to show up in their Chiefs gear. Their reception hall was decked out in red and gold with posters of Chiefs players, football-themed cocktails, and a handmade banner of a playing field.
“We had the biggest Super Bowl party ever that we could ever possibly have,” Nikki said. “It’s like how do you top that? You don’t.”
Four years later and the Walkowiak’s are feeling a bit of déjà vu. It’s the Chiefs and 49ers once again vying for the title.
“Right when [the Chiefs] needed to show up, they showed up and everyone in this town knows it,” said Rob. “It was phenomenal to watch the defense and then just to see Patrick, Kelce and the receivers get into the rhythm and become this flawless team.”
“I’ve had a couple people ask are you guys flying to Vegas to renew your vows,” Nikki joked. “That’s part of the tradition now with Chiefs-49ers Super Bowls.”
Nicki and Rob said nothing will top their Super Bowl wedding. This year, they plan to watch the big game at home, but they said their nerves from that day are sure to return come Sunday!
“Just as long, like you said, it’s the same outcome,” Nikki said. “That’s all I care about. Don’t care about anything else as long it’s the same outcome.”
The Chiefs beat the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV 31-20. The two teams play in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday on KCTV5. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
