Gone without a trace: Concern mounting over KCK man who ‘vanished’
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - A father of three has been missing for 10 days now. Each passing day without any sign of him makes it harder for his family. Kansas City, Kansas, Police are worried, too.
They have tried all the usual things. They’ve talked to friends and co-workers, searched the area, pulled cell phone records, and scoured surveillance cameras. All have been dead ends.
“We looked to see if there’s any concern that someone may have harmed him, especially since he has no history of doing anything like this, no history with illicit drug use, no people that had issues with him that we found,” said Detective Mark Bundy. “That’s what’s so strange about this case is that he’s just vanished.”
LAST SEEN MARCH 21
When Diana Dominguez met KCTV5 to talk about her husband, Brandon Anfinson, she was exhausted. She’s been trying to keep life as normal as possible for her three children. She’s just been to her son’s baseball game. But normal is hard to find. They hadn’t seen their dad for more than a week. He’s very involved with them. They know something’s wrong. Missing signs are up all over town.
“He has a large family and very large friend group,” said Bundy. “They’ve been in the Argentine area most of his life, and everybody down there knows him. Everybody’s just concerned because they know this is so out of character for him.”
Dominguez last saw her husband on March 21 at their home in the area of South 35th Street and Strong Avenue. He was asleep with her at 4:30 a.m. At 9:30 a.m., he was gone.
His wallet, his belongings, and both of his vehicles were still at home. He took his phone but she couldn’t get an answer.
POLICE INVESTIGATION
Police checked their network of street cameras. They located surveillance video from home cameras and business cameras. Nothing emerged to give them any clues.
“There’s no video evidence of him walking down the street or going to a store or that one last person that saw him that morning,” said Bundy. “There’s none of those things here, which is just unusual for this type of case.”
They were able to get records from his cell phone. In the time since his disappearance, there were plenty of incoming texts and calls but no outgoing ones. No one has used his phone. They checked for location data. Nothing to show his whereabouts. There was no signal. The phone had been off ever since he left the house.
“The phone has had no activity since the 21st, the morning that he went missing,” said Bundy.
There have been numerous searches.
“The family’s been out, friends have been out, volunteers have been out. We’ve searched all the areas, a pretty large geographical area around the home,” Bundy said.
Police put up their drone to check areas they couldn’t reach on foot. Still nothing.
They checked his bank records and found no recent withdrawals. His bank card and ID were still in his wallet at the house. It didn’t fit that he wanted to disappear.
“When someone wants to vanish. I get that you may want to stay off the radar, but you still need money, and you still want your identification, just in case you need it for something, even though you don’t want to be found,” Bundy remarked.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Police want to hear from anyone who has seen him or heard from him, anyone with any clues about where he might be, even clues about where he’s been any day since then.
“If there’s somebody out there that may have information about something that he had gone going on, or somewhere that he may have been, we need to speak to those people,” said Bundy.
They’d like to hear from anyone in the area who has surveillance cameras and has not yet been in contact with police.
Brandon Anfinson is 39 years old, 5-foot-11, and weighs 160 pounds. He has distinctive tattoos on both forearms as shown in the flyer above and described in detail in a social media post from KCKPD. He has scars just above his stomach.
The number to call for the KCK Police Department is 913-596-3000. Calls can also be made to the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS or submit a tip online at KCcrimestoppers.com.
Dominguez also wants to send a message directly to her husband: If you are reading this, please contact someone.
The unknown is unbearable. She and the children just need to know he’s okay.
