Woman crawls from wreckage after flipping car during high speed chase with police
SNELLVILLE, Ga. (WSB) – A dramatic car crash in Georgia was caught on camera after a car going nearly 100 miles an hour flipped over.
Sparks flew as a speeding car flipped again and again outside South Gwinnett High School after hitting speeds nearly triple that of the speed limit.
The chase began on the same stretch of road where a street racing arrest had happened just days earlier.
“The officer was sitting in the exact same position that the other officer was sitting in,” Jeff Manley with the Snellville Police Department said.
The chase began in Snellville on Highway 78 near Fountain Drive, the exact spot of last Tuesday’s arrest.
Around 11 p.m. Thursday, Snellville Police said an officer clocked another driver going 90 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Police said the driver then sped up.
“This particular officer actually races cars off-duty and has quite a bit of experience at chasing cars in the pit maneuver, well-trained in the pit maneuver,” Manley said.
After the speeding driver weaved through traffic, police said she tried to make a turn near the school and lost control.
“Struck the curb and flipped the vehicle over multiple times,” Manley said.
Video showed the woman crawling out from the wreckage of her vehicle.
Fortunately, no one else was hurt.
Police said 22-year-old Taylor Marie Brooks now faces felony fleeing charges on top of speeding.
“You kill somebody else on the road, it’s vehicular homicide,” Manley said.
The area that has seen repeated dangerous driving is now also seeing extra patrols.
“I think we’re definitely going to be watching a little bit more to make sure because it seems like we’ve had two occurrences now in 48 hours,” Manley said.
