BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) - The final blockbuster has played on the big screen at a Blue Springs movie theater.

Miller Theaters announced April 30 would be its final day in business for the 8-screen theater serving the community for years.

While the theater survived Covid and the years since, he also said it's part of the reason the theater is now closing.

The owner pointed to issues in the movie industry following the pandemic as one of the reasons for the decision to close, according to a notice taped to the theater’s front doors.

The owners got creative during Covid to keep the theater operational and as many employees as they could during the shutdown.

At that time, Brett Miller told the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce that he launched “curbside concessions” for people to buy. People could drive to the theater and buy popcorn to take home to watch movies.

"Miller Theaters family has enjoyed being part of the community and sharing memories and movies with you and your family," the notice said.

"We want to thank Blue Springs and surrounding communities for their support and patronage over the years. We will always together hold the love of movies in our hearts."
