KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - On April 2, Jackson County voters resoundingly voted against a sales tax extension to fund stadium projects for the Chiefs and Royals. Since that day, it has been crickets between the two franchises and Jackson County, and the majority of conversation regarding the team’s future stadium sites has centered around moving across state lines.

Earlier this month, Jackson County Executive Frank White sent a letter to the teams on how the parties involved will move forward. The Chiefs responded to the county executive on Monday, his office confirmed to KCTV5. The Royals responded on May 6, a team spokesperson said.

In the Jackson County Legislature meeting on Monday afternoon, White said his office had not yet had a chance to work through the email sent back by the Chiefs that he had received earlier in the day.

The current lease at the Truman Sports Complex lasts through Jan. 31, 2031.

In late April, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said the organization is reassessing its options for the future, whether that be at Arrowhead Stadium or building a new venue.
