WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Kansas Jayhawk Conference approved a bylaw requiring all schools to reserve at least 25 percent of their athletic letters of intent for Kansas athletes.

The decision was made during this week’s conference meeting. The policy will take effect in 2026 and apply to all sports offered.

At one point, the league allowed unlimited out-of-state athletic scholarships. The new policy limits out-of-state LOIs to no more than 75 percent of total offers, which the conference said places a renewed focus on Kansas athletes.

The range of sports programs across the 20 colleges varies widely, from football rosters with more than 100 players to tennis teams with fewer than 10.
