KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - For the Three Degree Guarantee campaign, the First Warn Five Weather Team chose an organization this month that changes the lives of children in Kansas City, Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Every day in August that KCTV meteorologists are right about the temperature – within three degrees – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City will get $50.

That money goes to matches like Sean Mitchell and his “big brother” Charles.

Sean was 10 years old when he was matched with Charles. He said he thinks he was headed down the wrong path and Charles helped change his direction.

“I consider Charles family now. We go out and play catch and I went to his oldest daughter’s wedding and his youngest daughter is getting married next weekend,” Sean said.

Now, 11 years after the pair were matched, Sean plays football for William Jewel College and is an intern for Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City.

“If he wasn’t in my life, I don’t feel like I would be a college football player, I don’t think I would be making the right decisions,” Sean said.

There are currently 264 kids in Kansas City who are looking for what Sean and Charles have.

“It’s just kind of a constant circle of kids wanting to be enrolled in the program but not enough volunteers to get them matched,” said Kristi Hutchison, Chief Marketing Officer.”

The money raised by the Three Degree Guarantee program will go towards the work to match littles with bigs.
