JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Jackson County judge has delayed the trial in the lawsuit filed over the latest Jackson County tax assessment.

The lawsuit, filed by the Missouri Attorney General and the state Tax Commission was set to be heard on Thursday, but late Tuesday, a Jackson County judge continued the case until June 27.

In arguing for the delay, the Jackson County attorney claimed the Attorney Generals office refused to name an expert witness and an auditor in time for the county to depose them.

The Attorney Generals office argued that the county had been uncooperative throughout the discovery process and was trying to get the trial delayed.

The lawsuit claims laws were broken in the 2023 assessment and wants the judge to void the increases in property taxes that owners paid last year.

County executive Frank White claims the lawsuit was politically motivated, and could be devastating for school funding.
