KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Following a brief stint in Kansas City during the 2024 season, offensive tackle D.J. Humphries is heading back to the NFC West.

According to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Humphries is signing with the San Francisco 49ers.

The signing comes after Humphries joined the Chiefs in late November during the 2024 season. He started one game for Kansas City before suffering a hamstring injury that put into flux the Chiefs’ plans at left tackle during a year in which rookie Kingsley Suamataia and second-year tackle Wanya Morris struggled at the position.

Humphries got healthy for the playoffs but remained in a reserve role as head coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs elected to move Joe Thuney from left guard to left tackle.

Eventually, the patchwork left side of the Chiefs offensive line caught up to the team in a blowout Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Humphries joins the 49ers after beginning his career with eight seasons in the NFC West as a member of the Arizona Cardinals. His move to the 49ers also comes during the same off-season in which the Chiefs signed former 49ers left tackle Jaylon Moore.

On Thursday, the Chiefs also addressed the left tackle position by spending a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the 32nd overall selection, on Ohio State left tackle Josh Simmons.
