Sporting KC’s Salloi named MLS Player of the Matchday following multi-goal performance
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - Sporting KC forward Daniel Salloi was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Matchday for Matchday 9 of the 2025 season, MLS announced Monday.
Salloi earned the honor after a two-goal and two-assist performance in Sporting KC’s 5-3 victory at San Jose on Saturday night. His four goal contributions tie the single-game high for any MLS player this season.
“I’m very, very proud of the team and the way we played. We’ve seemed to be clicking more and more. I’m just very happy for the team,” Salloi said in the postgame press conference on Saturday. “I’m still hungry. I still want to score more and assist more and, most importantly, win games with the team.”
Salloi became the first Sporting KC player since 2018 to record four goal contributions in a match.
The 5-goal performance from Sporting was just the third time in 30 seasons the club had done such a thing.
His two goals were the fifth multi-goal game of his regular-season career. It’s the second time in Salloi’s career he’s earned the award, the last time coming in 2021.
Salloi is the first Sporting KC player to win the award since Johnny Russell in 2023.
