CPKC employees compete for a cause, raise funds for homeless veterans
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Dozens of CPKC employees devoted their Saturday to compete for a cause as funds were raised for an area organization that helps veterans who may be homeless.
On Saturday, Sept. 21, CPKC said teams of employees spent 12 hours on stationary bikes to compete to raise funds for the Veterans Community Project as part of the 6th annual CPKC Spin for a Veteran event.
Dozens of employees participated in the annual event, including VCP of Kansas City Executive Director Chris Admire.
“Veterans have all kinds of barriers that they face every day,” Admire told KCTV. “It’s not always the same barrier, things change so it allows us to be nimble in how we deal and help veterans overcome their barriers.”
Officials noted that the event has raised more than $2.5 million for charities since it began in 2017. This was one of three simultaneous events as the others took place in Canada and Mexico.
CPKC said it has a long history with the military and the event is a way to give back and raise awareness for veterans who may be experiencing homelessness in Canada and the U.S.
Meanwhile, advocates indicated that the Veterans Community Project is a KC-based nonprofit that is focused on veteran homelessness through transitional tiny home housing and lifelong support.
