KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The home of the world’s first stadium built for a women’s sports team will soon be the home of the 2024 NWSL Championship.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the historic CPKC Stadium will host the pinnacle match of the women’s soccer league.

The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, and will air live on CBS at 7 p.m. It will be Kansas City’s first time hosting the match.

CPKC Stadium was built for the KC Current, who are playing an undefeated season as of their last 2-0 win against the Houston Dash on June 28.

“We are so excited to host the world at our home,” said Kansas City Current Co-Founder and Owner Angie Long. “We are excited to show everyone the unparalleled match experience in a stadium for players, fans and those watching on TV. It is an honor to host the NWSL Championship and Kansas City is ready for the moment.”

With support for the NWSL soaring this season, the league said choosing Kansas City just made sense.

“It was a natural choice to stage the league’s marquee event in a venue that exemplifies the profound impact of infrastructure, investment and community support on the continued development and success of our sport,” NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman said.

Starting this year, the NWSL will play an “expanded postseason format,” with four quarterfinal matches taking place the weekend of November 9-10. The semifinal round is set for November 16-17. Both playoff weekends will air live on CBS.

If the Current keeps their undefeated season going, they might just be playing a home-field championship game.
