KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - An undefeated record looks good on the Kansas City Current as the team regains the top spot in the NWSL.

The Current defeated the North Carolina Courage 1-0 at CPKC Stadium Sunday.

According to the organization Lo LaBonta hit a career milestone of ten thousand minutes played during her fourth start of the seaon.

“The things we talked a lot about is the importance of winning games 1-0,” Vlatko Andonovski, Current head coach, said. “5-2 is great, 4-2, 5-3, they’re all great, but 1-0 it just strengthens the character and mentality of the team and prepares them for tough matches. Which, there are going to be a lot in the regular season and hopefully in the postseason.”

The team battled the rain, and a soggy pitch white taking 21 shots, with eight on target.

The rain finally stopped at halftime with the match a scoreless draw. It was the first time this season that a team held the Current scoreless in the first half at CPKC Stadium.

The winning play came in the 52nd minute. Forward Temwa Chawinga drove toward the goal from the left side. She sent a shot to the far post, but North Carolina’s goalkeeper was able to deflect. Debinha found herself in the perfect place and sent the deflected shot into the back of the net.
