KU’s S’Mya Nichols named to All-Big 12 First Team; Jayhawks see 3 earn All-league honors
LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - Overland Park native S’Mya Nichols was named an All-Big 12 First Team member for the second consecutive season as the league announced its all-conference teams on Tuesday.
Nichols averaged 18.9 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. The points per game mark from the sophomore guard was fifth-best in the Big 12 this season. Her All-Big 12 First Team selection marked her second consecutive season receiving the honor after her arrival at Kansas as a highly-touted recruit.
Along with Nichols, junior guard Elle Evans was named an Honorable Mention all-conference selection and Regan Williams was named to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team.
Evans was Kansas’ second-leading scorer with 14.4 points per game in her first season as a Jayhawk following a transfer from North Dakota State. Williams, a Kansas City, Missouri, native, made 24 starts in her 29 games with KU. She scored in double figures in 13 games for the Jayhawks.
The Jayhawks went 16-13 in the regular season and had a 6-12 record in Big 12 play. As the No. 11 seed in Big 12 play, they’ll play 14th-seeded Texas Tech on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at the T-Mobile Center.
TCU’s Mark Campbell was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year and TCU guard Hailey Van Lith was named Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
