OLATHE, Kan. (KCTV) - The First Warn 5 Weather Team is celebrating a year of philanthropy for local non-profits with its Three Degree Guarantee campaign.

Every month a new charity is chosen. During that month, $50 goes towards that charity when the First Warn 5 Weather Team forecasts the temperature within three degrees of what it is.

For June, the First Warn 5 Weather Team will raise money for Noah’s Bandage Project.

The non-profit has helped kids in the hospital for nearly 10 years and it all started with a six-year-old boy, Noah Wilson.

Noah was diagnosed with cancer at age 6.

Noah did not particularly care for the plain bandages he was covered in following his treatments.

“He asked his parents if he could collect some cool, colorful ones that they could give to his friends he met at the cancer treatment center,” said Julie Reid with the project. “So, they put a basket out on their front porch, it soon overflowed and that’s how it all began.”

Noah’s Bandage Project was born that day and continues to grow.

Thousands of boxes of bandages have been sent across the globe in Noah’s name.

Noah survived his cancer and was focused on the project when another form of cancer was detected.

He passed in June of 2015.

Noah’s family, friends, community, and people worldwide continue his legacy.

Noah’s goal - to make a child smile while enduring treatment - is an ongoing reality.

“Most of the kids are wearing hospital gowns and are bald, for the most part,” Reid said. “So, this allows them to choose an identity.”
