This week, Jackson County leaders traveled to Jefferson City to meet with lawmakers and the governor about keeping Kansas City sports teams in Missouri.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas Thursday put his support behind a Missouri Senate Bill that would authorize the state to create incentives to help keep professional teams in the state.
On Tuesday, more possibilities popped up regarding where the Chiefs and Royals could move to since voters said no to a sales tax initiative seven months ago.
“I know the Royals are going to continue to evaluate all the options they have, but I’m very confident that when we get to the end of this conversation the Royals will be playing in Kansas City for years to come,” said Lucas.
Kansas City developers, architects, and marketing firms say they have an idea for a downtown Royals stadium that wouldn’t displace any local businesses or homes.
"You’re going to see not just the governor’s office but the Missouri legislature supportive of retaining these two valuable assets here in the state of Missouri, particularly in Kansas City.”
As the Kansas City Chiefs get set to embark on the journey toward a potentially historic three-peat on the field, organizational leaders off the field continue work on finding a stadium solution.
