KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A little bit of history, that’s what echoes through the walls of the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center and Museum.

It’s a place to honor the Black community that played a major role in creating the foundation of Kansas City.

“For me, coming in this space, it’s a spiritual experience because I know what my parents had to go through for something like this to be accomplished,” jazz entertainer Lonnie McFadden said. “So, for me, I think we owe it to them to make sure that this space continues to be a place where people know they can come and grow and continue to make Kansas City a better place.”

McFadden said he performs at the center to carry on the conversation of the past, a pivotal part of molding the future.
