'Kansas City's really one place': Lucas tweets following talk of Chiefs, Royals to Kansas
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Has Mayor Quinton Lucas given up on keeping the Royals and Chiefs in Kansas City, Missouri? He says no.
But Kansas City’s mayor posted to social media on Monday giving his take on the recent news surrounding the two franchises exploring a move across the state line.
“Maybe because I moved a lot growing up or went to school on State Line, but I can’t do the whole Missouri v. Kansas thing,” Lucas shared on X. “Kansas City’s really one place, as all who live here know. We’ll grow together long term and decline if we can’t figure out how to grow the regional pie.”
Both the Chiefs and Royals are now publicly on board with the idea of using STAR bonds to possibly move from Missouri to Kansas. On Saturday, the Royals relayed to KCTV5 that the team needs “a place to play baseball in the near future, and the recent STAR bond discussions in Kansas provide a path for us to explore.”

Missouri Governor Mike Parson said he will do everything he can to keep the Chiefs and Royals in the Show-Me State. On the Kansas side, Rep. Sean Tarwater thinks Kansas and its STAR bonds will “be better than anything Missouri can offer.”
Kansas lawmakers are scheduled to reconvene for a special session on Tuesday, June 18.
