Andy Reid offers injury update on Rashee Rice as Phase 1 kicks off offseason

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Chiefs head coach Andy Reid doesn’t have a timetable for Rashee Rice’s return, but said Monday the wide receiver is progressing.
Reid offered injury updates on both Rice and tight end Jared Wiley on Monday. Both players suffered season-ending knee injuries last season.
“They’re doing well,” Reid said. “I can’t tell you when they’ll be back exactly here. Both of them bust their tail. They’re running, which is good. We’ll just see how it goes going forward here. We don’t have them here on the field right now with us. So we gotta see the football part of it as we go.”
The Chiefs kicked off Phase 1 of their offseason program Monday with virtual meetings.
“I’m excited to get going again,” Reid said. “It’s been fun to go back in and dig in on the season and either come up with new things, and/or correct the things that we still like and are bringing back.”
For the next two weeks, NFL teams are restricted to meetings, strength and conditioning work and rehabilitation — no football-specific activities are allowed. Phase 1 is optional.
“I think it’s a great time for the players,” Reid said. “It’s slowed down to where they get to see all the videos, the cut-ups, the work that the coaches have put in to do these evaluations and to teach.”
After this week’s NFL Draft, the team’s newest rookies will kick off camp May 24. The Chiefs will hold a series of organized team activities, or OTAs, in late May and early June. Mandatory minicamp starts June 17.
