Report: Chiefs re-sign veteran RB Kareem Hunt
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Veteran running back Kareem Hunt is returning to the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2025 season.
According to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Hunt is re-signing with the Chiefs a season after returning to Kansas City as an in-season signing following an injury to running back Isiah Pacheco.
Terms of the deal are unclear but Hunt rushed for 728 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2024 with the Chiefs. He played in 13 games for the Chiefs and started eight of them, totaling over 900 yards of total offense.
The 2017 NFL rushing champ was drafted by Kansas City in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Toledo. He’ll turn 30 in August. Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz said the one-year deal was worth up to $2.5 million.
Hunt scored a game-winning touchdown in overtime of a 30-24 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and also scored touchdowns in both playoff victories over the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills.

He rushed just 3 times for 9 yards in Kansas City’s 40-22 Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Hunt re-joined the Chiefs in somewhat surprising fashion after being released by the team in 2018 after lying to the organization about an incident involving him and a woman.
He will now be a part of a Chiefs running back room that features Pacheco, himself and Elijah Mitchell, who Kansas City signed on the first day of free agency from the San Francisco 49ers. Whether the Chiefs add a running back in the 2025 NFL Draft remains to be seen, but experts believe this draft class is especially deep at the position.
