KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - International soccer superstar Lionel Messi will start for Inter Miami CF in Wednesday night’s Concacaf Champions Cup match against Sporting KC.

Messi’s starting lineup spot comes as he and Inter Miami CF prepare for what is expected to be the coldest game in Sporting KC history with wind chills below 0 and real temperatures well below freezing.

The match was postponed a day due to extreme weather in the Kansas City area on Tuesday as snow hit the Kansas City metro.

Messi played in front of a sell-out crowd at Arrowhead Stadium last summer when Inter Miami played Sporting KC in a MLS match. Now, the two clubs will meet at Children’s Mercy Park Wednesday night for their first game of the 2025 season, the first of two legs in Round One of the Concacaf Champions Cup.

Tickets for Wednesday’s frigid match plummeted due in part to the temperatures in the area. According to Vivid Seats, the lowest priced ticket prices Wednesday afternoon were $27 before fees.
