Bidunga, Coit, Griffen become latest Jayhawks to enter transfer portal in mass exodus from KU

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - As the Kansas men’s basketball program looks to retool for next season, the Jayhawks will do so with a nearly entirely new look roster.
Over the weekend, a mass exodus of sorts began with the Jayhawks roster. On Saturday, freshman center Flory Bidunga entered the transfer portal following a season in Lawrence. On Sunday, freshman wing Rakease Passmore also entered the portal.
Another pair of exits continued Monday as senior guard David Coit and junior guard Rylan Griffen announced they’d exit Kansas as well.
The entries into the transfer portal come following a 21-13 season for KU that saw head coach Bill Self lead a Jayhawk team to its worst NCAA Tournament seed (7) and worst finish in Big 12 play (6th) during his time at KU.
Bidunga averaged 5.9 points and 5.4 rebounds as a freshman but was expected to take a major leap forward in role as a sophomore following the end of KJ Adams and Hunter Dickinson’s college careers. Now, it’s unclear whether he’ll return to Kansas or choose to head elsewhere in the transfer portal.

Griffen averaged more than 11 points per game as a sophomore at Alabama but had a disappointing year with KU, scoring 6.3 points per game on 33% shooting from 3-point range. Coit, a 5-foot-9 guard who joined the program over the summer after leaving Northern Illinois, has one season of eligibility remaining as he seeks a new destination.

There is reason for optimism for the Jayhawks with top-rated prospect Darryn Peterson set to join KU this season. Peterson is participating in the McDonald’s All-American Game this week in Brooklyn, New York.
The only remaining scholarship players on the Kansas roster are junior forward AJ Storr -- who is widely expected to announce his departure at some point -- and guards Jamari McDowell and Elmarko Jackson. McDowell redshirted during the 2024-25 season and Jackson missed the entire year due to a torn patellar tendon.
