LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - One of the leaders of the Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team is on the road to recovery following surgery.

“KJ (Adams) had successful surgery this morning to repair his torn Achilles,” said Kansas head coach Bill Self on Wednesday. “He is in good spirits. Although this is a big setback, he’ll attack his rehab with his patented toughness and be back on the court as strong as ever.”

Adams suffered the injury late in the second half of KU’s 79-72 opening-round loss to Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament.

The senior forward from Austin, Texas, ended his career in crimson and blue being assisted into the locker room after tearing his Achilles coming down for a rebound. The Jayhawks were leading 67-64 at the time of his injury.

Adams played 138 career games for Kansas and was a part of the 2022 national championship team.

He averaged 8.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game during his career. His torn Achilles will delay the start of his professional career. Where that career begins is to be determined.
