KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - They may have gray fur and sleepy eyes, but they are just as loving.

The dogs at Shep’s Place are getting a second chance at life.

It’s a sanctuary for older dogs not having any luck being adopted from the shelters.

“As a sanctuary, they are safe,” Dr Russell Clothier said. “They can stay here forever, and some of them do stay here forever, but about three-quarters of our dogs we find new homes for and they get a second chance.”

Dr. Clothier founded Shep’s Place. He said all of the dogs at the sanctuary used to have families and were taken to the shelter for one reason or another.

Now, they are living in a fixed-up house that is perfect for dogs.

“They can live here like they used to at their homes,” Clothier said. “They can get on the couch or run around the yard.”

This July, our First Warn Five Weather Team wants to give back to the pups at Shep’s Place through our Three Degree Guarantee Campaign.

For the month of July, every day that our meteorologists accurately forecast the temperature within three degrees, Shep’s Place will get a $50 donation.

That’s our 3 degree guarantee.

In the meantime, if you would like to give one of the furry friends a second chance, or volunteer your time, you can go to Shepsplace.org.
