KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Each month, the KCTV5 First Alert weather team raises money for a local organization.

Every time the team forecasts the day’s temperature within three degrees of what it ends up being, $50 is added to the donation.

For the month of May, Bags of Fun Kansas City will benefit from the 3 Degree Guarantee initiative.

Bags of Fun delivers gift bags to local children spending time in the hospital.

“Since 2011, in Kansas City alone we have delivered over 1,800 bags of fun,” Executive Director Louisa Weinrick said.

The bags of fun are backpacks full of toys and useful play items like Kindles or therapy toys.

“Really, the goal is to give kids the power of play. To bring belly laughs with silly items like whoopy cushions, we give them things to shoot at the doctors and nurses, things they can play with by themselves, things they can play with other people,” Weinrick said.

Each bag costs $450 to put together. You can donate funds or even sponsor a child’s bag.
