Chiefs to sign former 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell, per report
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Another former member of the San Francisco 49ers is headed to the Chiefs.
Fox Sports NFL reporter Jordan Schultz posted on Monday morning that Kansas City is signing running back Elijah Mitchell on a contract worth up to $3.5M.
The report comes the same morning as the Chiefs agreeing to a contract with former 49ers left tackle Jaylon Moore.
Mitchell was taken in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Louisiana and appeared in 11 games his rookie season, rushing for 963 yards with five scores on the ground. He added another 137 receiving yards and a touchdown, helping the 49ers to the NFC Championship game.

The 26-year-old sustained an injury-shortened season in 2022 after suffering an MCL sprain at the beginning of the campaign, playing in just five games.
Mitchell appeared in 11 regular season games in 2023 and saw playing time during the 49ers' Super Bowl LVIII loss to the Chiefs. But another injury, this time a hamstring, took him off the field for all of 2024.
The Chiefs brought in Kareem Hunt to help fill the gap left by running back Isiah Pacheco’s broken leg injury in the second game of the 2024 season. Kansas City also signed veteran running back Samaje Perine on a 1-year contract last season.
