St. Joseph native Noah Cameron to make MLB debut as Ragans deals with groin tightness

TAMPA, Fla. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Royals are set to send a pitcher to the mound Wednesday for a Major League debut start.
Left-hander Noah Cameron, a top Royals prospect and St. Joseph, Missouri, native, will start Wednesday in the second game of Kansas City’s series with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Cameron’s Major League debut comes as the result of the Royals making the decision to skip ace Cole Ragans’ start as he continues to deal with groin tightness. That ailment caused the Royals’ lefty to leave his previous start against the Colorado Rockies after allowing four runs in three innings of work on Thursday.
Cameron, a 25-year-old who was drafted by Kansas City in the seventh round of the 2021 MLB Draft, has a 2-0 record with a 3.22 ERA in five starts for the Omaha Storm Chasers this season. He was drafted out of Central Arkansas.
MLB.com rates Cameron as Kansas City’s fifth-best prospect.
His debut start will come in a game that begins at 6:05 p.m. CT Wednesday night.
According to FanDuel Sports Network reporter Joel Goldberg, Royals manager Matt Quatraro said it remains to be determined on whether Ragans will make his return to the rotation this weekend in Baltimore or early next week when the Royals return to Kansas City.
