KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - It’s ‘Teal Time’ in Kansas City ahead of the KC Current’s first home playoff match in CPKC Stadium on Saturday. Across downtown, countdowns could be found letting people know just how long it was until the playoff match against the North Carolina Courage.

Inside Union Station, a lit-up sign reading “Teal Time’ with a soccer ball was a photo op fans couldn’t pass up. The KC Blue Crew, the dedicated fan base of the KC Current, came together ahead of Saturday’s match.

“I think we’re making history and it’s happening right here in Kansas City,” said Travis, a Blue Crew member.

“From opening day to now has just been a ride,” said Trina Hawkins, the KC Blue Crew President. “A wild ride. It’s been busy, exciting, and a little overwhelming at times just from the support of the community.”

Hawkins, who has played soccer her entire life, has been with the Current since the beginning.

“Soccer is in my blood,” said Hawkins. “When they announced they were getting a team back in Kansas City I jumped all over it.”

She says it’s been fun watching the community support the team.

“I feel like Kansas City is the perfect place for it,” said Hawkins. “I mean we love sports. We have great people. We all just pull together and help each other out so I think that’s why this community has embraced this team. They are a lot of fun and there are a lot of great personalities and really great players.”

The KC Blue Crew plan on getting to CPKC Stadium bright and early Saturday morning to tailgate ahead of the game.

“We are really excited,” said Hawkins. “And we’re going to be loud. Very, very loud.”

The KC Current, the 4th seed, will be taking on the North Carolina Courage, the 5th seed, on Saturday at 11 a.m. at CPKC Stadium.
