RIVERSIDE, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Current is off to a red-hot start in 2024.

They debuted their brand new stadium, kicked off the year unbeaten through their first 10 games, and became just the fourth team in NWSL history to tally 14 different scorers in a season — not even halfway through their schedule.

Now, they’ll continue without a key piece of their puzzle. General Manager Camille Ashton announced this week her decision to leave her post after 2.5 years.

“We do respect Cami’s decision, and we don’t look at it as a bad or good timing,” Vlatko Andonovski, the club’s head coach and sporting director, said. “There’s never good timing.”

Ashon is largely credited with engineering the most dramatic turnaround in the NWSL this season.

“We were able to make some changes and bring players that will impact the team, impact the success of this team,” Andonovski  said. “[She] transformed this team from being one of the bottom teams in the league, in the standings, to being one of the top ones.”

Director of Soccer Operations Caitlin Carducci will serve as interim general manager while the team searches for Ashton’s replacement.

“We don’t have too much time to look over everything,” Andonovski said. “We have to move on and get ready for the game. In fact, we have one tomorrow.”

The Current kick off in Utah at 9:00 p.m. Saturday.
