LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - Charges are being considered for a juvenile who caused panic after they were found across the street from a Lawrence high school with a BB gun.

The Lawrence, Kansas, Police Department says that just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, emergency crews were called to Free State High School at 4700 Overland Dr. with reports of an individual with a gun.

Law enforcement officials indicated that multiple officers quickly responded and found a group of juveniles across the street from the school. One of which was found to have been in possession of a pistol-style BB gun.

Investigators noted that the weapon was seized as parents were contacted. A report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.

“We are very appreciative of the student who reported seeing the individuals with the BB gun, and would always encourage anyone to immediately report safety concerns, as happened today,” said an LKPD spokesperson.

There is no ongoing threat at the school, no injuries were reported and no further information has been provided.
