Investigators search for drivers who nearly missed wrong-way driver on K-10
LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - Investigators are searching for drivers who had to swerve out of the way of a wrong-way driver on K-10 who is believed to have been intoxicated.
The Douglas County, Kansas, Sheriff’s Office says that just after midnight on Wednesday, May 7, emergency crews were called to the area of K-10 and Iowa St. with reports of a driver headed east in the westbound lanes.
The Eudora Police Department indicated that an officer was able to locate the suspect vehicle, a silver Nissan Maxima, as the driver, later identified as Nicolas R. Cano, 35, of Lawrence, ultimately stopped near the E. 1900 Rd. exit ramp.
Investigators noted that Cano passed at least five vehicles as he was headed the wrong way on the highway, including two semi-trucks. Anyone who may have had to swerve to avoid Cano has been asked to call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at 785-843-0250.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office booking report indicated that Cano has been booked into jail on two counts of driving under the influence and two counts of reckless driving.
