JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - An $80,000 grant has been awarded to the city of Kearney to evaluate its wastewater, stormwater and drinking water systems.

The grant was awarded by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and falls under the Clean Water Integrated Management Plan.

The program offers funding to qualified communities to assist with preparing an integrated water management plan, DNR said in a release shared Wednesday.

“Reliable water and wastewater infrastructure is essential for the sustainability of communities and industries, as well as the quality of life for all Missourians,” said Kurt Schaefer, director of the Department of Natural Resources.

In Kearney, the grant will be used for system improvements for wastewater, stormwater and drinking water systems. The Department of Natural Resources said the city will also use the grant to look at ways to reduce stormwater infiltration into sewer collection pipes and how to manage stormwater as a resource better.

The plan is expected to be complete in April 2027.
