Fountain City Brass Band returns to KC as champions of national competition
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Fountain City Brass Band (FCBB) won the 2025 North American Brass Band Association’s (NABBA) national competition on April 4 and 5.
This is the 10th win for FCBB at the contest since it began competing in 2005. It also ties FCBB for the most wins since the contest was created.
The contest features brass bands all across North America at all levels competing in six categories from Youth Bands to the Championship section.

During the weekend competition, bands performed a pre-selected test piece and a second piece of the band’s choice. A panel of adjudicators judge blindly in both technical and artistic categories. FCBB won over the other eight bands in its section.
The Fountain City Youth Brass Academy band won second place in the Third Section. The youth band competed against five other adult and youth bands.
The competition features solo contests for all instruments and small ensembles. FCBB members David Sayers and Andrew Roe each received prizes for the solo contest. Sayers was named Grand Champion for his flugelhorn performance. Roe received and honorable mention and finished in second in he cornet slow melody division.

FCBB will perform in May with a Memorial Day concert. Tickets can be purchased on the Fountain City Brass Band website.
