KCKPS students receive record number of scholarships for higher education
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - The Kansas City, Kansas School of Excellence Foundation is celebrating over $100,000 being awarded in college scholarships.
Around 40 students from Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) were honored with scholarships at a ceremony held at Central Officer on April 30.
Scholarships range between $1,000 and $5,000, allowing students to pursue higher education.
“Often our graduates are first generation and may not have access to additional financial options,” said Foundation Development Supervisor Tory Anderson. “Or, they have families that are not in a position to support them in their post-secondary education.”
Those who received the scholarships needed to have a 2.0 GPA or higher, have submitted a 500-word essay and have a recommendation letter from a high school counselor, principal, teacher or community leader. These students plan to attend the fall 2025 semester of an accredited college, university or technical school.
JE Dunn Construction and MVP Law of Kansas City are just two of many sponsors who contributed to these scholarships. Both allocated four scholarships this academic year.
Many of the funds come from an annual golf tournament organized by the foundation, as well as endowments.
