Scare near Shawnee Mission high school leads to temporary lockdown
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) - Overland Park police responded to calls of a suspicious person near Shawnee Mission South High School Thursday, April 17.
Shawnee Mission South sits between Nall and Metcalf Ave., just north of I-435.
Around 8:50 a.m., Overland Park Police responded to Shawnee Mission South High School on reports of a ‘suspicious man’ in the wooded area on the north side of the school.
The person was described as a white man in his late twenties, with a beard, wearing a tan baseball cap and pants.
School administrators issued a lockdown, bringing all students and staff inside the building.
K-9 officers and their handlers searched the school inside and out. Drones were also deployed, but found nothing suspect on or near the grounds.
The lockdown lasted for one hour before an all clear was given.
Parents were emailed and texted by the district about the incident.
