Sporting KC assistant coach Zoran Savic leaves after 16 seasons

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Zoran Savic, Sporting KC’s assistant coach, left Kansas City after 16 seasons.

In August of 2009, Vermes joined the Sporting KC coaching staff. Savic led Kansas City in winning the 2013 MLS World Cup and made 11 appearances in the MLS Cup Playoffs during his time as coach.

“We thank him for all of his contributions and for his continued role in growing the game of soccer in Kansas City,” said Peter Vermes, Sporting Kansas City Manager. “His competitive spirit and commitment will be missed.”

Originally from Serbia, Savic began his soccer journey in the States over four decades ago.

Savic started his career as a Kansas City Comets star from 1982-1984, and then played for the Kansas City Attack in 1991. He retired from playing in the Attack and became their head coach from 1992-1996.

He coached again in Kansas City from 2000-2005. In 2007, Savic transitioned to coaching outdoor soccer.

During his career, Savic also commentated for MLS matches in 2008 and 2009.
