KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A local broadcaster is proving there are different paths to achieving your dreams.

“I actually didn’t do a lick of broadcasting while I was in college,” Aly Trost Martin said.

After majoring in Journalism at the University of Missouri, Trost Martin accepted a job in Kansas City at a small design firm. She pursued her passion in her free time by working for a local sports blog.

“I bought my own camera equipment and somehow convinced the Sporting PR staff to let me go down on the field and conduct postgame interviews. Looking back, I still to this day do not understand why they let that happen,” she smiled.

“That was such an important experience and opportunity for me because, number one, I was nervous as all heck. So, to get over that fear and get past the fear was massive. And two, give myself reps doing something that I didn’t get a chance to do in college.”

From there, her career blossomed. She started working at Sports Radio 810 in 2019.

In 2021, the Kansas City Current brought her on their broadcast team for their inaugural season. Sporting KC hired her as their sideline reporter, and she eventually became the play-by-play voice for the club.

“You can do a lot more than you even think of yourself,” she said. “That’s something that I’m so thankful for my time in Kansas City: showing me that I could do things that I never thought I could do.”

Today, you can catch her as a host for the CBS Sports Golazo Network and calling NWSL matches on Paramount Plus and CBS Sports Network.

“I never had a role model growing up that I looked up to who did something like this,” she said. “To show that that’s possible and to be a part of this with CBS and the NWSL is just a dream come true.”
