KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Grandview woman has been sentenced to more than 2 years in prison after falsified tax documents cost the IRS more than $1.1 million.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri says that on Wednesday, May 7, Sandra Mondaine, 64, of Grandview, was sentenced for filing false tax returns for others.

Court documents indicated that Mondaine was sentenced to 33 months - 2 years and 9 months - in federal prison without the chance of parole. She was also ordered to pay $1.1 million in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service. She pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the preparation and filing of false tax returns.

Investigators noted that Mondaine was an ex-IRS employee and prepared returns for clients in the Kansas City metro area. She gathered tax return information from clients and prepared returns with false information - namely, false residential energy credits, charitable contributions, medical expenses, dependents and more.

Court records revealed that Mondaine retained part of the claimed refund before she provided the rest of the refund to clients. She also appeared to have submitted doctored and falsified documentation when clients were audited by the IRS.

According to the IRS review, the total tax loss related to the conviction was $1,113,215.90. No further information has been released.
